      Charge Your Batteries Through Your USB Port With This New Design

      Fewer and fewer devices in our life rely on batteries, but they are still prominent enough to insure that every now and then, you’ll fumble through your things looking for that final set of AA’s you are sure you had, and juggling between the ones in the Xbox controller and the TV controller as needed.

      Rechargable batteries have been around for years to prevent scenarios just like those, and while they’re impressive technology in their own right, the classic rechargeable set up doesn’t quite feel up to speed with the modern tech world, and looks out of place in any home, not to mention the inconvenience it puts on travelers.

      There is a design out there for a AA battery that looks to alleviate the modern issues with rechargeable batteries, by outfitting a standard AA battery with a USB plug-in. The set up would allow you to plug the battery into any USB port, and recharge it without any additional equipment required. Even better, the battery itself doubles as a 4GB USB flash drive for additional file storage.

      Perfectly built for traveling, or really any use, this is not an idea without precedent, but it’s never looked more effective than it does with this design. Unfortunately it is just a design at the moment, and any plans past that concept are just that.

      The inventor, Wonchul Hwang, sounds committed to making this concept work though, which is perfect, as so long as this device’s price doesn’t break the bank, everyone is going to want a couple of these around.

      Turn Your Tub into a Touchscreen With Aquatop

      Technology may be designed to be with you wherever you go, but the one area where your pretty much on your own is the bath.

      Sure you can buy waterproof cases, but when you get right down to it, how comfortable are you really with holding your favorite expensive electrical toy mere inches above a pool of water? Even if you do survive an accidental drop, exactly how much submersion can that tablet or smartphone withstand before it’s lost?

      That’s the question that keeps most of us from bringing our tech in the tub, and drove a team of developers in Tokyo to use a Kinect, a projector, some speakers, and a home computer to craft an invention that can turn the surface of your tub into a touch screen.

      From the user’s perspective, once the device is turned on, they only need to dip their hands into the water to turn them into interface tools. With that in place, you are now able to run files, videos, pictures, and other applications, and interact with them in a manner very similar to how you would with a touchscreen.  There are even special gestures, like the ability to use your thumb and index finger to grasp an icon and drag it around or, even cooler, the ability to fully grasp an item and submerge it to delete it.

      The really impressive part about this tech comes through the games however. I advise you skip to about 7:06 in that video above, to see what happens when you combine all of the elements of this tech to produce a game that may be simple (essentially an aerial shooter type), but uses what should be a hindering environment for such a thing as an advantage instead, as you are provided a gaming experience that could be had nowhere else but the bathtub.

      Continuing a recent trend on this site, this is a device that isn’t likely to go beyond the prototype stage, but hopefully makes sporadic public appearances in some fashion, as it’s hard to not want to get your feet wet (so to speak) in this technology once you see it in action.

      Because Absurdity and Ability Don’t Always Hang Out With Common Sense, Here’s a Baby Stroller for Men

      Full disclosure. This baby carriage does not exist in any retail form, and sadly is not likely to anytime soon.

      Instead it is the result of a group polling of fathers by the ŠKODA car company, where it was revealed that dads would be much more willing to push their babies around in strollers if it weren’t for the fact that it was just so unmanly.

      Of course when asked what would make the average stroller manlier, the dads responded with suggestions straight out of your standard episode of “Home Improvement.” Among them were a more muscular design, large wheels, hydraulic suspension, and brakes lights, since when you’re pushing your baby boy or girl like a bat out of hell, you naturally need to consider safety.

      While anyone else would have treated this as “guy talk,” ŠKODA took it as a challenge and designed a prototype built to those requested specifications, as it comes decked out with 20 inch all terrain tires, suspension, brake lights, and even high-beam headlamps. They call it the “Man-Pram.”

      Sure it was mostly done as a stunt for the recent ad campaign for ŠKODA’s new car, but it also serves as a physical embodiment of the old saying that you should be careful what you wish for, as this stroller shows that while some things sound awesome over a couple of beers and punctuated by high fives, when you actually see the end result, you realize that some things are best left practical and…

      Oh who am I kidding. Slap a lawnmower engine on this puppy, ship it stateside, and you’ll have to start a waiting list just to handle the demand.

      A 15 Year Old Has Invented A Flashlight That Runs Off Your Hands

      If that headline made you feel like you may not be contributing as much effort to society as you could…you’re not alone.

      Yes, a 15 year old from Canada has created a flashlight that runs off of nothing more than your hands. While you might guess that magic is the cause (possibly evil magic) it in fact functions because of peltier tiles, which generate an electric currency when one side of the tile becomes hotter than the other.

      In this case, the exterior of the handle is heated by your hands, while the interior components remain cool. Specifically, the exterior must remain 5 degrees Celsius hotter than the interior for a useful enough current to be produced.

      The developer calls this the design’s greatest flaw, since being humble is much easier when you are a 15 year old genius.

      Dubbed the hollow flashlight because of its hollow handle, the design is still in a sort of prototype phase and is currently making its rounds at various young achievers contests, including the worldwide 2013 Google Science Fair, where it finished in the top 15.

      Garnering impressive accomplishments aside, there doesn’t seem to be much direction for the hollow flashlight as there is only the one known model and, no matter how intelligent they are, 15 year olds usually don’t mass produce on their own.

      This is a great design, though, that improves upon some recent battery free flashlight ideas, by functioning off something you always have easily on hand (pun sadly intended) without relying on cumbersome and time consuming mechanics.

      Hopefully then someone picks up the concept, as some form of this design would ideally be in every emergency kit worldwide.

      WOW, this was a tough decision.

      See, there’s only so much room to feature all of the great gadgets of the world on this blog, and some days, the pickings can be overloaded.

      For instance, today brought us the world’s smartest microwave, a urinal that doubles as a sink, a motion detecting Nerf sentry gun, and a health monitor for the home that functions similarly to something off of “Star Trek”, just to name a few innovations.

      But in the end, I had to go with something we could all use in our lives. It’s a device that manages to be simple yet revolutionary, as it completely changes the world of gadgets forever.

      It’s an electrical socket that rotates.

      Brought to us by the good people at 360 Electrical, this outlet features sockets that can not only rotate, but actually maintain an electrical connection while you maneuver them. That means that all of your devices that don’t quite fit (most likely due to those cumbersome “box” like plug-ins that manufacturers still prefer to use) will still be active no matter what position you set them in, and you can finally fit them all into one outlet without relying on a series of surge protectors, or voodoo curses.

      Best of all, the outlet plugs in to your current outlet with little installation required. That means it’s not only compatible with your home, but can easily travel with you as well.

      Should that not be enough, they also have power strips that perform similar functions as well.

      It’s not often that a device comes along that once and for all addresses a basic (but prevalent) technological need, but this is certainly one of them, and should be worthy of every gadget users attention.
