13-Year-Old Wins the Billionth App Package

Earlier this week Apple announced the download of its billionth app from the iPhone app store. The store has been an obvious success, hopefully at a level that continues to fuel innovation, and not just apps for taking out your frustration on a wailing baby.

To celebrate the milestone, Apple was offering a pretty sweet prize package for the billionth download. A 13-year-old from Connecticut won with his download of Bump, from Bump Technologies. The kid won a $10,000 iTunes gift card, a Time Capsule, A MacBook Pro, and an iPod Touch.

Refurb iPhones Go For $149.00

Apple iPhone. AT&T has refurbished versions of both the black and white 3G iPhones for just $149.00 when you sign up for a 2-year contract. This is definitely the best deal on the web for the Apple phone, and will probably entice plenty of folks to get one.

Of course, I’m always skeptical when it comes to pricing things for liquidation. Could this point to the third-generation iPhone? Coupled with the news that AT&T is also selling phones out of contract, I’d give it a definite yes.

Hulu App Officially in Development

If one word comes to mind when we think of combining the most successful media phone in the world with the best (legal) web video site, it’s “badass.” That’s exactly what web video monster Hulu.com is calling their new app for the iPhone, and understandably so.

Hulu won’t be the first to enter the streaming video scene on the iPhone, but it’s certainly the most prominent. The new app is said to support both Wi-Fi and 3G streaming, giving you the opportunity to catch up on 30 Rock anywhere, anytime.

The Hulu/Apple partnership strikes me as quite the boon for Apple. Hulu is a big deal, and having the ability to watch popular programming at any time is sure to tip a whole host of people who might already have an inkling for an iPhone. Toss in some ad revenue sharing on Hulu’s part and you have the start of a beautiful friendship.

Is That a Pip-Boy In Your Pocket?

User sadosdemetrios over at the Crackberry forums has created a Blackberry skin featuring graphics inspired by the Fallout 3 Pip-Boy. As a huge Fallout fan, I can hardly describe my joyful rapture on seeing this thing.

As the day fast approaches whence I shall cast off the chains of my lesser phone and purchase something a bit…smarter, it’s hard to ignore little customizations like these. The iPhone, despite its many wonders, doesn’t support user-defined interfaces, a feature I would really like to see in the future. For now, you can at least change the look with Winterboard. If you really need to know your RAD levels, you’re stuck on the Blackberry.

That’s right – the latest and greatest iPhone app, known as iNap@Work simulates the sounds of office productivity so you can catch some sleep. With sliders to adjust the frequency of events like typing, mouse-clicks, and even sneezing, your coworkers will think you’re the busiest cube in the block.

Don’t forget to adjust your productivity level. If the office slacker sounds like he’s churning out TPS reports at incredible speed, your boss is sure to notice.
