      Palm Pre Plays Nice With iTunes

      Pre vs. the iPhoneAccording to Fortune Magazine the Palm Pre works seamlessly with iTunes. So seamlessly, in fact, they claim iTunes treats the phone just like an iPod or even an iPhone, the only exception being older files downloaded when DRM was still involved. I think I can actually hear the vein in Jobs’ temple throbbing.

      Of course, we’ve already heard Apple COO Tim Cook say that anyone attempting to jack the intellectual property of the iPhone will be hunted down and hung from the high walls at Cupertino for the birds. I’m pretty sure that’s how the quote went. I’m not sure, though, that this little detail will make much of a difference to the serious Pre enthusiasts. Sure, it’s nice, and could save a few headaches, but transferring music from a computer to a device is rarely difficult, especially when there’s no DRM involved, and the Pre has its own ways of importing contacts and the like. If iTunes functionality is a consumer’s primary concern, I’m gonna guess that person is going to stick with an iPhone.

      In case you missed it, here’s what’s Bouncing Around the Web:

      JawboneJawbone, considered one of the very best Bluetooth headsets on the planet, just released a second generation Jawbone. And according to Gizmodo, it’s better in just about every way. I sure hope it is because spending $130 for a Bluetooth headset is a lot to swallow.

      If you were Apple, how would you react to questions about your lack of presence in the netbook market? If your answer is to rip the entire market apart and tell everyone to just buy and iPhone or iTouch instead, then you should be working for Apple. Though, they definitely left the door open for future developments.

      I think AT&T may be a little bit afraid of the Palm Pre. Someone at AT&T leaked a comparison chart which I’m sure AT&T sales people will use tear down the competition. Regardless of the actual data in the report, the fact that AT&T, and by association Apple, is worried about the Pre is quite interesting.

      I saved the good news for last. AT&T has been testing faster 3G speeds in some markets. With a few software tweaks, they have bumped speeds from 3.6 to 7.2 megabits per second. Mama mia, that’s a spicy meatball!

      Say it isn’t so: Apple to deny the SlingPlayer App?

      Just when my gadget life was all coming together.

      SlingPlayer AppFirst, I got my Dish HD Absolute package installed about 1 month before they discontinued selling it. So I now get all the HD channels including locals and DVR for $40 a month. Hell yeah! Then I jumped on my wife’s iPhone plan, which is mostly company paid, and converted it to a family plan. Hello shiny new iPhone 3G, goodbye old crappy phone from 2006. Then Dish shows up at CES with a Sling-Loaded DVR. Sling-Loaded meaning that not only can you record, pause, and rewind live TV but now you can also stream that TV to pretty much any internet connected device in the world. How sweet is that? The reason I said pretty much any device is because there is not a SlingPlayer app for the iPhone… at least not yet.

      Well, all that changed late last month when Sling submitted their SlingPlayer Mobile app to Apple. You see? You see? Everything is coming together! Or it was until I read this:

      Electronista cites “a source close to Apple’s approval processes,” who claims Apple is giving SlingPlayer the red light because AT&T fears it will strain bandwidth on its network.

      Noooooooooooooooooooooooo! Damn you AT&T. Damn you Apple for submitting to AT&T. Damn you Sling for being so cool that I would get this upset over an app.

      Thankfully, there is a silver lining:

      However, Wired.com thinks SlingPlayer will appear in the App Store for a few reasons. First, Sling is a very high-profile, popular service whose plans for an iPhone app have been well-documented; a flat rejection would cause an uproar. Second, Sling tells Wired.com it has a good, communicative relationship with Apple, and we trust Apple will not break that relationship. Third, Apple already announced it’s optimizing live streaming in the upcoming iPhone 3.0 OS — a Major League Baseball app using this improved streaming support is already in the works, although it remains unconfirmed whether this will only work with Wi-Fi.

      Well now I don’t know what to think. Will it happen? Won’t it happen? Who knows. I just hope the gadget gods give Sling the push they need to get the SlingPlayer Mobile app approved.

      Bouncing Around the Web

      Apple and Stanford University have joined forces to teach an iPhone development class. The course materials and video of the classes will be available through iTunes. Best of all, they are free. This is a great move at keeping the iPhone and iPod Touch app content fresh and new. Just another reason Apple will probably dominate in the mobile phone market.

      iPhone Game Boy Case      What has to be the coolest case I have ever seen for an iPhone is over at engadget. The case looks exactly like a Game Boy. First, I haven’t seen the Game Boy in years and second, it makes me just want to pick it up and play it. The case is more of a tease than anything. I guess it fits right in here at Gadget Teaser.

      While I’m not a fan of the evil empire, I can be a fan of the Yankees new 101 by 59 foot LED display at their new stadium. That thing is enormous. I might have to take a trip to New York just to get a glimpse of it. And hopefully to watch the Yankees lose too.

      Tap Dat App – BargainBin

      Have you ever purchased an app then found out the next day it went on sale? Or worse yet, the next day it’s free? It happens all the time. Apps constantly go on sale for half off or free. As a user of the App Store, it is frustrating when you just decided to make the purchase only to find out you could have waited a few hours or days to get it heavily discounted.

      Well in comes a new free app called BargainBin. According to the apptism, BargainBin’s main features are:

      •Sale prices updated as they happen
      •Price tags that indicate when apps are: Free or Bargains (50% off or greater)
      •Filters that allow you to see Free Apps only, Bargain Apps only, or All apps on sale
      •Browsing by a specific category or all Bargains
      •Browse only popular apps that have gone on sale
      •Viewing screenshots of the application quickly, without having to go to the app store
      •Viewing application descriptions quickly, without having to go to the app store

      Now that’s what I’m talking about. I have had this app installed for about a week and I love it. I check it everyday. Why not? With just the tap of my finger, I can quickly find everything that is on sale or reduced to free. What a concept!

      So head on over to the App Store and make sure you install BargainBin. Cause only fools pay full price for apps.
