Some iPhone 4 orders are being inexplicably cancelled

This is just getting ridiculous – after this morning’s report that the iPhone 4 had shipped for many pre-orderers, there’s now news that some consumers have had their iPhone 4 pre-orders inexplicably cancelled. Here’s what the emails say:

Your iPhone order has been cancelled.

Your credit card has not been charged.

If you believe you have received this email in error, please return to the AT&T store where you placed your order.

Sincerely,
AT&T

I’m thinking my initial response would be “Yeah, this is in error. I ordered the damn phone on day one. My order shouldn’t be cancelled without reason.” After many people talked to both AT&T and Apple, it seems there were either authentication issues on AT&T’s end or we just don’t really have a reason for things being cancelled.

Anyone actually think launch day will be a success? As it stands, I’m guessing I’ll be using my 3GS for another month because AT&T’s activation server is going to explode.

iPhone 4s have started to ship

iPhone 4 shippedI woke up this morning to an email from the Apple Store with the above message. The iPhone 4 has started shipping to customers across the country. My phone is currently in Lantau Island, HK.

Though my own estimated delivery date is the 24th, some people have reported estimated deliveries for the 23rd. Apple will likely issue do-not-ship commands for Fed-Ex to keep the phone from releasing early. It always seems like someone screws those up, though, so maybe you’ll be lucky and get your iPhone 4 a day early.

iPhone 4 status changed to “prepared for shipment”

iPhone pre-orderI was a little nervous after all of the iPhone 4 pre-order trouble. After all, what’s the point of pre-ordering a device if you won’t have it on launch day. Lucky for me, Apple has me (and probably most anyone who pre-ordered) covered. My order status has been changed from “not shipped” to “prepared for shipment.”

It wouldn’t be any surprise to see the devices ship out early this week and be held at the distribution warehouse for delivery on the 24th.

Review: Technocel PowerPak

Technocel Powerpak.Battery tech has gotten better over the years but it still has a long way to go. When the Palm Pre launched, one of its “differentiators” was the fact that it had a removable battery, so you could carry an extra for the days you were burning through the juice. For a lot of gadgets, though, that’s not an option.

That’s where external battery packs come in. Technocel recently sent me a PowerPak, a little battery pack that doubles as a charger, and I have to say, I’m in love with the thing.

With the Technocel PowerPak, you get the charging base along with a bundle of charging tips for various devices. You can connect to pretty much anything – micro USB, mini USB, and proprietary connections like Samsung and Sony – while the pack delivers power from a USB socket. Yes, that means you can plug in your iPhone cord and go.

While the PowerPak charges your device, it also charges an internal 1000mAh battery that can be used later by simply plugging in your favorite device. The front features a simple four-LED indicator for the battery’s charge level. As a point of reference, the iPhone 3GS is just over a 1200mAh battery, so this thing can almost get you up to full charge. In my experience, I would get anywhere from 60-80 percent additional battery life from the Technocel PowerPak, depending on how much I used my phone as it charged.

Battery size would be my one gripe about this device. It’s extremely portable and I love that it’s universal in case I need to charge something else in a pinch, but if they could double the battery life, it would be just about perfect. That said, I liked the PowerPak enough to feature it in this year’s Father’s Day Gift Guide over at our parent site, Bullz-Eye.com. The Technocell PowerPak retails for $49.99.

iPhone lines are already forming

iPhone 4 guy in Dallas.

There’s at least one guy so pumped about the iPhone launch next Thursday that he’s already in line. And get this, he pre-ordered.

His name is Justin and he stopped by the MacRumors forums to let everyone know why he’s such a fanatic.

Some would say I am crazy, but I say I’m a very determined fan. In fact I just might be one the biggest Apple fans you will actually meet. I have been the first costumer for this store since 2008 when the iPhone 3G was released.
Normally I only camp out over night, but since I do not work due to the fact I am disabled with a seizure disorder and I am not in school at the point, I figure I just make it a fun experience and do it for a week.

Yes I did reserve a phone, but again, I’m doing it for a fun experience. I haven’t had a trip or vacation in past 10 years so I figured I make it a full week camping trip.

My setup and location has everything I could need to live for a week, even in the Texas heat. Tent is packed with a sleeping gear, a chair, full ice chest of drinks and food, and the Apple staff have been very nice to me treating me like a king. LOL I also brought a extension power cord for phone charging and things that need power. There is even a portable toilet around the back of the store if needed.

That been said, I’m actually doing really well out here. If anyone gets a chance, come join the fun!

Justin

I’d say you’re crazy, Justin. Super, super crazy.
